General Assistance...
The Town of Arundel administers a program of general assistance available to all persons who are eligible to receive assistance in accordance with the standards of eligibility as provided in 22 MRSA §4301 et seq.
The General Assistance Program is mandated by the State of Maine Legislature. All recipients are responsible for meeting their basic needs by any means available before applying for assistance. The Department of Human Services reimburses the Town for 70% of all general assistance granted.
"Emergency" situations include homelessness, or any life-threatening situation; or a situation beyond the control of the applicant, which if not alleviated immediately, could reasonably be expected to pose a threat to the health or safety of a person; a situation which is imminent, and which may result in homelessness, undue hardship, or unnecessary cost if not resolved immediately.
Clients who do not qualify for financial assistance will receive guidance in finding other available resources. This office assists residents with needs such as filing tax and rent refunds and referral services.
Arundel is fortunate to have such wonderful volunteers and contributors. This has made it possible for so many needs to be met. Community Outreach Services or COS for short, operates a food pantry located at 19 Park Street in Kennebunk for the residents of Arundel and the Kennebunk's. You have the option of scheduling the appointment for a pantry order by using their online link at https://coskennebunks.formstack.com/forms/appointments or by calling them directly during regular pantry hours at 207-985-3844. The COS Food Pantry's operation hours are Monday's from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday's and Thursday's from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday's from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. COS also offers other programs such as help with heating fuel. You will need to contact the Arundel Social Services Administrator to see if you qualify and request a referral. Holiday Food Baskets are distributed at Thanksgiving and Christmas for any Arundel resident that is in need. Each basket is filled with all the fixings for a hearty meal. Secret Santa is also offered to any of our residents who may need a helping hand to provide Christmas gifts for their children. We don’t want to forget the Elder Elves who always give out beautiful gifts to homebound seniors in our community. Without the contributions that are received from everyone, Arundel would not be able to offer these services.
